Classification & Safety Data Sheet (SDS) Services

Safety Data Sheets (SDS) are a crucial component for health and safety in a workplace. SDS provide necessary handling and safety information about products containing hazardous chemicals. It would be best if you produced SDS for all substances and mixtures which meet the criteria for physical, health or environmental hazards under GHS by manufacturer, importer, supplier and distributor to their downstream user. The safety data sheet means to reduce risks that may arise by describing suitable protective equipment and how to act in the event of an accident.

The SDS information needs to be up-to-date and delivered in the official language of the market where the chemical product is being sold. Global Hazmat has over 18 years of experience authoring, validating and maintaining fully compliant safety documents for chemicals and dangerous goods.

In addition, we offer a combined SDS that can meet Canada’s and the US’s requirements. For example, both countries require Safety Data Sheets and labels for hazardous products in the workplace.

  1. Canadian SDSs must follow Schedule 1 of the Hazardous Products Regulations (WHMIS 2015), and must be in English and Canadian French by law.
  2. United States SDSs and labels are required to follow the Hazard Communication Standard (HCS). Appendix D of 1910.1200 provides a detailed description of SDS content requirements as per OSHA.
  3. Combined Canadian SDS and United States SDS.

SDS Authoring

Complete, compliant safety data sheets written from your product data — all sixteen sections, properly classified.

Compliance Management

Ongoing management of your regulatory obligations — tracking what’s due, keeping documentation current, and staying ahead of the changes that affect how you ship, store, and handle.

SDS Updates

Safety data sheets revised as formulations, classifications, and regulations change — so what’s on file reflects the product you’re actually selling and the rules currently in force.

SDS Translation

Safety data sheets translated for the markets you ship into — accurate technical and regulatory language, not literal word-for-word conversion, so the document holds up wherever it’s reviewed.

Hazard Classification

Classification of substances and products according to current regulatory standards to determine hazard communication requirements.

Compliance Assessment

We will identify data gaps and ensure compliance with current regulatory standards.

What is involved in the SDS authoring process?

Our experts analyze your product’s chemical composition, physical properties, and toxicological data against current GHS, WHMIS, and OSHA standards. We draft a fully compliant 16-section Safety Data Sheet complete with accurate hazard classifications, GHS pictograms, signal words, mandatory hazard/precautionary statements, exposure controls, and dangerous goods transport classifications.

Yes. We author dual-compliant SDSs tailored to meet Canadian WHMIS requirements (including mandatory bilingual English/French formatting) and U.S. OSHA Hazard Communication (29 CFR 1910.1200) standards, ensuring your products move seamlessly across North American borders.

We evaluate raw material data, flash points, pH levels, toxicity metrics, and state of matter against Transport Canada (TDG), U.S. DOT (49 CFR), IATA (Air), and IMDG (Marine) criteria. We assign the proper Shipping Name, UN/NA Number, Primary and Subsidiary Hazard Classes, and Packing Group to ensure compliant shipping documentation and packaging.

An SDS must be updated whenever significant new hazard information becomes available, when product formulations change, or when regional regulations adopt updated GHS revisions. Regular catalog reviews ensure your SDS inventory remains current, legally compliant, and audit-ready.

Yes. Products manufactured overseas often carry safety sheets that do not align with North American WHMIS or OSHA GHS standards. We review international documentation, verify chemical classifications, and re-author compliant SDSs and workplace/shipping labels tailored for the North American market.

Regulations governing hazardous materials and chemical safety are constantly updated. We monitor regulatory bodies year-round and provide proactive compliance advisories, helping you update internal plans, product classifications, and employee training programs before new rules take effect.

Yes. We support multi-modal international supply chains by ensuring full regulatory alignment across road (TDG / 49 CFR), air (IATA / ICAO), and marine (IMDG Code) transport frameworks. We ensure your cross-border and international shipments are fully compliant with origin, transit, and destination requirements.
